Classroom Culture

Building an inclusive, dynamic, and safe learning atmosphere

Classroom Culture Introduction

Building an inclusive, dynamic, and safe learning atmosphere is one of my top priorities and is an essential component to an individual's success in the classroom. The following expectations are general guidelines for students to understand their role in this ongoing process.

“I believe in academics and that learning is paramount to your intellectual, moral, social, and emotional development. Do not waste any opportunity for growth.”

Core Expectations

Be Present: While instructing or in groups, be listening, asking questions, researching, and taking notes.

Be Kind: Any offensive language, name-calling, or insulting behavior is NOT tolerated. Be positive and helpful.

Respect Property: Do not write on desks or school property.

Electronic Devices: Please shut off cell phones unless specifically instructed for research purposes.

Come Prepared: Bring class-related materials and have them ready to use when you arrive.

Always Read: Always have an outside reading book. If you finish early - READ!

Missed Work: You are responsible for finding missed assignments (check online, ask a classmate, or ask me).

Late Work: You may turn in late and/or missed work for full credit. I believe in mastering concepts.

Identification: No-Name papers are placed in a folder. Always have proper headings.

Handwriting: Use loose-leaf paper. Remove frayed edges. Use BLACK or BLUE ink for essays. Be neat-if I can't read it, I won't grade it.

Margins: Please respect margins; do not write in them as I use them for comments.

Grades: Check grades weekly. If a mistake is made, I will fix it in a timely manner.
